On Feb. 7 — less than one month after the Scottsdale auction concludes — London-based auction house Bonhams will host a Paris event they’re calling “Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais.”

That’s French for ‘The Great Marques of the World at the Grand Palais,” with the Grand Palais being a historic Beaux-Arts exhibition structure located on the Champs-Élysées.

It’s a premium location, and everything set to cross the block — from memorabilia to motorcycles — reflects that. The more than 600 lots include books, hood ornaments, posters, cars, motorcycles and even the De Havilland Gipsy Moth biplane used in the filming of Out of Africa.

Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept @Paris

Photos from Audi USA facebook

Audi says its Crosslane Coupe concept merely previews future design and technology ideas, yet we know that it’s actually our first glimpse at the Q2 crossover due next year. The new Q2, however, will probably incorporate some of the clever styling and efficiency strategies shown in the Paris show car.

The optimistic economy claims, angular styling, and fanciful touches like a removable CFRP roof panel make it clear the Crosslane Coupe is just a concept car. Yet we can expect to see much of the design language and some version of this plug-in hybrid powertrain when the Audi Q2 makes its official debut in late 2013

McLaren P1 Here

A car produced by a company with the most historic success this side of Ferrari in Grand Prix competition would aim for nothing less.

McLaren says this will be a range-topping version for its lineup, which includes coupe and spider versions of the MP4-12C. The company will use technology from that supercar—and advance it. Specs are not confirmed, but we expect the P1 will employ an upgraded version of the twin-turbo V8 fortified with KERS. Plus McLaren’s carbon-fiber monocoque will advance lightweight technology even further.

The 2012 Paris motor show, or as it is officially known – Mondail de l’Automobile – will take place Sept. 27 through Oct. 14, 2012. It occurs every two years alternating with the Frankfurt motor show in Germany. The Paris motor show is a spotlight for the latest in design, but automakers will also be showing off their latest concept cars, green cars and supercars.

Just days before the public reveal of the Renault Alpine A110-50 concept at the Monaco Grand Prix, a leaked image has hit the Web.

Eerily similar to the Renault DeZir concept from the 2010 Paris motor show, the A110-50 is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Renault Alpine A110.

According to the United Kingdom’s Car magazine, the A110-50 will have a mid-engine V6 with roughly 400 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The original Alpine A110 premiered in 1962 at the Paris motor show and was, according to Renault, a vehicle for “motorsports first and foremost.”

Prado Mona Lisa vs. Louvre Lisa: Leonardo Redux?

The Mona Lisa is one of the most enigmatic and iconic pieces of Western art. It has inspired countless copies, but one replica at the Madrid‘s Museo del Prado is generating its own buzz: conservators say that it was painted at the same time as the original — and possibly by one of the master’s pupils, perhaps even a lover.

Juxtaposing the two paintings — and using infrared technology which works like an x-ray, allowing one to see beneath the paint to see previous, obscured versions — conservators say that Leonardo and the painter of the replica made exactly the same changes at the same time.
