Set to rival the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, Porsche Panamera Turbo and upcoming Audi RS7, the latest M-car sets out to broaden the scope of the existing M6 lineup, providing added levels of practicality and improved comfort through the adoption of two extra doors and greater rear seat accommodation than its coupe and convertible siblings, alongside which it will be produced at BMW’s Dingolfing factory in Germany from early 2013.
The car arrives in North America in early summer of next year with a price tag around $110,000.
Nothing truly exhilarating ever really happens in a few seconds — until now. The new 2013 Audi S6 accelerates from 0-60 in a mere 3.7 seconds and was recently ranked “The World’s Best Sedan” by Car and Driver over the M5 and E63. Warning: Your adrenalin may rise as fast as the speedometer.
There are a lot of things slower than an S6. Car and Driver recently clocked it running to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and named it the World’s Best Sedan—ahead of the BMW M5 & Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. What are some other things slower than our new Audi S6? Autoweek.com

The wild Lexus LF-LC coupe concept that wowed visitors at the Detroit auto show is on track for development, signaling a new direction for a brand that has fallen from first to third in the U.S. luxury sales rankings.
Company executives said in January that the flashy 2+2 sports coupe was not planned for production. But several Lexus insiders now say the overwhelming reaction means it almost certainly will come to market.
Lexus dealers recently were sent crystal sculptures with a 3-D laser rendering of the LF-LC etched inside the crystal. Inscribed on the crystal were the words, “2012 GS Challenge … 27,500 Sales.” The underlying message: Hit the sales target for the mid-sized sedan and get the cool coupe.
But the Lexus source said the LF-LC probably would be produced even if dealers don’t hit the GS sales target.
Lexus’ 11-year reign as the best-selling luxury brand in the United States ended last year as it slipped behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Lexus continued to trail BMW and Mercedes in the first half of this year.
Mini has revealed the new Mini Countryman John Cooper Works edition, which comes with all-wheel drive and an improved engine making 211 hp. It debuted on Tuesday ahead of its live reveal next week at the Geneva motor show.
The engine, now with a variable valve control system based on BMW‘s Valvetronic technology, gets a boost of turbocharged horsepower, to 211 hp at 6,000 rpm, and 207 lb-ft of torque from 2,000 rpm to 5,600 rpm. It also has reinforced pistons and intake valves.
Look for a 0-to-62-mph time of about 4.9 seconds.
Combine that with the fact that the mini Mini would require some investment from parent company BMW to meet current regulations. Crash performance in particular was a challenge. Stability and handling problems also played a part.
The 2013 BMW 6-series Gran Coupe, pictured here in production guise for the first time, arrives just 20 months after it was previewed as a concept car at the 2010 Beijing motor show. It joins the existing coupe and convertible in an expanded range of 6-series models aiming to attract buyers who place greater emphasis on outright style than sheer practicality. It will make its public debut at the 2012 Geneva motor show.
Stylistically, the Gran Coupe is identical to the second-generation 6-series coupe and convertible, from its forward-leaning kidney grille to the upper trailing edge of its windscreen. However, the car adopts a longer roof structure, shorter front doors, more substantial B-pillars and two conventionally front-hinged rear doors, providing it with added levels of everyday practicality. But to maintain a degree of coupelike style, all four doors are frameless.

The 2011 BMW Frozen Black Edition M3 coupe is a blacked-out, even more sinister version of the imposing M3. Consider this if the Le Mans blue or others colors don’t suit your tastes. Only 20 are coming to North America, and that started in June. Good luck getting one. The base sticker is $80,525.
The “frozen” paint adds a matte finish to the black paint, which is meant to accentuate the lines and contours of this BMW muscle coupe. It’s a glorified paint job but look at it–and drive it–and you won’t debate the merits of the proposition. The Batmobile look is set off by glossy black gills on the sides, the kidney grille in front and on the exhaust pipes. There also are red brake calipers that catch the eye even in motion. The car also gets the competition pack, which lowers the ride height by 10 millimeters and adds M3GTS 19-inch wheels.
Power is the same as in the “standard M3,” with a 4.0-liter V8 pushing out 414 hp. It’s only offered with the dual-clutch transmission, which lowers the sprint to 60 mph two-tenths of a second to 4.5 seconds.
BMW has revealed its sixth-generation 3-series sedan. The new model is the first in an unprecedented six-car lineup that will include a five-door GT and a four-door GranCoupe for the first time. BMW plans to put the car on sale across North America in February as a 2012 model. BMW officials suggest the price will rise an average 3 percent over the hugely popular fifth-generation 3-series sedan, on sale here since 2005.
While the overtly sporting i8 is set to act as the performance figurehead for BMW’s initial range of purpose-built alternative-drive vehicles, it is the less expensive and the more practical i3 that offers the choice of either standard plug-in electric or optional range-extended electric drive. This feature will provide BMW’s “i” brand with broad appeal at a base price that executives suggest will be comparable to more powerful versions of today’s 1-series when sales begin in 2013.
Conceived primarily for urban driving, the compact zero-emissions hatchback eschews the traditional low-slung lines of contemporary BMW small cars for a distinctly more upright stance that offers the i3 excellent all-round visibility for ease of maneuverability in city traffic, along with room for up to four adults and a nominal 7.1 cubic feet of luggage space behind the rear seats. In BMW’s words, “It’s been designed for maximum practicality but without any compromise in overall driving dynamics.”
